Peanuts Lives: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz

What better way to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center than an exhibition examining the enduring influence of Schulz and his Peanuts characters on cartooning and popular culture?

In Peanuts Lives, the long–term impact of Schulz’s life’s work is revealed through the images and words of his fellow cartoonists as they pay homage to him in their own art. Peanuts’ lasting cultural influence is evidenced by the fact that, seven years after his death, Schulz’s characters continue to be featured in editorial cartoons and popular comic strips that address important aspects of our shared cultural experience.

The second installation of Peanuts Lives (beginning August 18th) displays tribute cartoons created specifically to honor Charles Schulz’s receipt of the National Cartoonists Society’s Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award; these tribute cartoons ran in newspapers in May 2000, just three months after Schulz passed away.  Also on display is an expanded selection of never–before–displayed newspaper comic strips and editorial cartoons featuring Peanuts characters and/or well–known gags that were created in the last seven years since Schulz’s death— providing proof that, indeed, Peanuts Lives!
