ABOUT WILL EISNER AND WILL EISNER WEEK
March 1-7 is Will Eisner Week and recognizes the pioneering talents of the artist who first merged comic books and novels. The week encourages reading, experiencing, and enjoying comics and the graphic art form. William Eisner was born on March 6, 1917. In 1978, he published what is considered the first graphic novel, A Contract with God. Eisner is also the namesake of the Eisner Awards, the most prestigious honors for creative achievement in American comic books and graphic novels. Considered the “Oscars” of the comics industry, the Eisner Awards are presented annually at the San Diego Comic-Con (Comic-Con International).
