Meet, watch, and talk to cartoonist, illustrator, author, art director, and educator M.D. Mills, creator of Spiralink Cartoon Art. Mills’s cartoons and illustrations appear in magazines, books, journals, newspapers, and advertisements. She is currently working on WE, the second edition of her early comic graphic novel, The Human Comedy Comix. Mills will guide visitors in creating their own cartoons, drawing on the inspiration and wealth of common phrases and shared experiences.
ABOUT M.D. Mills
M.D. Mills began drawing at age 3 and never stopped. She’s worked as an art director and illustrator, and her cartoons, illustrations and drawings appear in magazines, books, quarterly journals, newspapers, brochures and advertisements. Spiralic movements and forms of our universe inspire her.
M.D. Mills uses humor and surprise to draw us into our tender Hearts and remember, below opinion and fear, that we are all human beings with thoughts, feelings and desires in common.
Originally from the East Coast, Mills has lived and worked in the Bay Area for the last five decades.
She has a rich foundation in art-making, theater and dance, anatomical illustration and somatic movement, and has taught nationally at universities and colleges, hospitals, community and training centers. She is grateful to the work of Charles Shultz and of Steinberg, Feiffer, Baishi, Chaz and Calder for modeling the significant effects black line drawings can have in our world.
