Biographical/Historical note

Elmer R. Hagemeyer was a St. Louis policeman before and after World War II. While stationed at Camp Campbell, Kentucky he befriended Charles M. Schulz. Schulz accompanied Hagemeyer when he traveled to St. Louis to visit his wife Margaret. The Hagemeyers became very close to Schulz during the war and Schulz decorated some of the envelopes that carried the letters Elmer wrote to Margaret. Schulz eventually used Hagemeyer's name as the married name of Linus' teacher, as well as the name of Marcie's organ teacher in the Peanuts comic strip.
