Bobby Podesta
Supervising Animator, Pixar Animation Studios
Bobby Podesta joined Pixar Animation Studios in 1997 as an animator on A Bug’s Life and has been an animator and story artist on many of the studio’s subsequent feature films including Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., and the Academy Award®-winning features Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. On the Golden Globe®-winning feature Cars, Podesta held the roles of Directing Animator and story artist and continued on as the Supervising Animator for Academy Award©-winning Toy Story 3. As well as his work on Pixar’s feature films, Podesta is credited with story on the series of Cars short films, Mater’s Tall Tales, as well as being the Supervising Animator on the Disneyland ride “Finding Nemo’s Submarine Voyage.”
Podesta briefly left the studio in 2011 to be the Chief Creative Officer of a venture-backed Silicon Valley start-up, as well as develop feature films with Japanese and Hollywood animation studios. He returned to Pixar to animate on Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, and Finding Dory, as well as storyboard on Cars 3 on which he was later promoted to Supervising Animator. He most recently served as Supervising Animator on Pixar’s Academy Award®-winning feature film Soul and is currently working on the upcoming Cars on the Road Disney+ series, which is set to debut in Fall 2022.
Prior to coming to Pixar, Podesta attended California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he won a student Emmy for his graduating short film and interned during his summer breaks at various animation studios throughout Los Angeles. He graduated from CalArts’ character animation program with his B.F.A. in film and was hired at Pixar shortly thereafter. In his spare time, Podesta is currently writing a novel for young adults and lives in Oakland, California, with his wife, daughter, son, two cats and a dog.
Steve Purcell
Director, Pixar Animation Studios
Steve Purcell joined Pixar Animation Studios in September 2001 as a story artist on the Golden Globe®-winning feature film Cars. As part of the Cars production team research trip along Route 66, the crew’s discoveries introduced a sense of warmth, heart and authenticity to the story and characters of the film. In addition to his valuable work on the story crew, Purcell contributed script material, voiced the Tractors and consulted and produced concept art for the Cars franchise toys and games. It was his storytelling talent that led Purcell to his next role as co-writer, co-director, lyricist and Crow voice on the Academy Award®-winning feature film Brave. Working closely with the film’s directors and producer, their research immersed them in Scottish culture, including an inspiring journey across the Scottish Highlands. Purcell was also the writer and director for Pixar’s second ever television special, Toy Story That Time Forgot, and performed the character of the villainous Cleric. He is currently series writer as well as directing on the upcoming Cars on the Road Disney+ series, which is set to debut in Fall 2022.
Prior to Pixar, Purcell worked as a freelance illustrator, concept artist, and comic book creator. He was a computer game animator and designer for LucasArts and adapted his own comic book characters as a LucasArts game and later a network television animated series. He was also an artist at Industrial Light and Magic working on feature concepts and story development. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Purcell grew up with a passion for art and filmmaking, finding inspiration through Mad Magazine, the Marx Brothers and Monty Python, and creating his own stories, comics and 8mm films in the suburbs of the East Bay.
Purcell graduated from California College of the Arts in Oakland, California, and has remained in the Bay Area throughout his career. He currently lives in Sonoma County with his wife and small pooch.
Rosana Sullivan
Story Supervisor / SparkShorts Director, Pixar Animation Studios
Rosana Sullivan joined Pixar Animation Studios in April 2011. She worked as a story artist on The Good Dinosaur, Incredibles 2, and Onward, in addition to the Academy Award®-winning feature film Coco. Sullivan also directed the SparkShorts film Kitbull (2019) and was nominated for an Academy Award®. She most recently worked on the upcoming Pixar feature Turning Red and is currently on an unannounced project.
As a story artist, Sullivan provides visual storytelling to a project’s script pages, utilizing compositional staging, environment, and character blocking. Each story board aims to maximize drama and entertainment, while making the story point clear as possible. Story artists have to draw characters acting, camera moves, and very limited effects animation to sell an idea or emotion.
Prior to Pixar, Sullivan attended the University of San Francisco before earning an internship with Pixar University. She later attended Academy of Art University and worked for Kabam gaming studio in San Francisco. Born in Charleston, SC, Sullivan grew up in Texas and San Francisco.
