At 11:00 am, author Derrick Bang will discuss the recently published second edition of his biography of jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, Vince Guaraldi at the Piano, in conversation with Bill Buchanan, journalist and award-winning public affairs radio show host.
At Noon, Healdsburg Jazz Family Matinee Concert Series presents a live performance by Ami Molinelli and Groupo False Baiano, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Enjoy live music hosted by Healdsburg Jazz and tailored for young kids, teenagers, and families.
ABOUT DERRICK BANG
Derrick Bang is a prolific writer with a diverse career spanning film criticism, published reference works, and feature stories. His notable works include the two-volume book, Crime and Spy Jazz on Screen, a biography of jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, and several books about Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts. Bang has received critical acclaim for his writing, including an Eisner Award nomination, and has contributed liner notes for numerous Guaraldi albums. He was a staff writer for Video Movie Guide and served as entertainment editor for The Davis Enterprise. With a background in retail and journalism, Bang continues to write entertainment commentary and historical articles while residing in Davis, California, with his wife and two pets.
ABOUT BILL BUCHANAN
Journalist Bill Buchanan is an editor, writer, radio interviewer, and producer. He lives with his wife Kathryn in Davis, where he has hosted a local public affairs program, Davisville, on KDRT-LP 95.7 FM since 2008. Derrick Bang is a guest each fall for the program’s annual year-end movie show.
Buchanan grew up and went to college in the Bay Area. He has been editor of the Sacramento Business Journal, managing editor of the Daily Republic in Fairfield-Suisun City, a senior writer for the main tech department at UC Davis, and currently freelances for Trains magazine and SFGATE.
