Kazu Kibuishi Returns to the Museum
Amulet series author, Kazu Kibuishi, returned to the Museum after 3 years. He spoke in the auditorium on both Saturday and Sunday (Sunday for our Boy Scout Day) and followed that by signing books and talking to visitors. We were very happy to see him again, and our visitors appreciated the time he took to present an overview of his career and current work, to show them how he uses the Wacon tablet to paint, and to answer their many questions.
The sixth book of his Amulet series, in which Mavin will pilot a bunch of robots, will be released in August and Kazu is now working on the seventh book in the series.
In 2012 Kazu was chosen by Scholastic Publishers to design the book covers and the box for the re-release of Harry Potter books on the 15th anniversary of the initial publishing. This is quite an honor, as Scholastic Publishers and the author are very careful about the property. Kazu said that his approach to the cover design was to celebrate the work, rather than to “update” the design for a new audience.
Kazu’s 4 year old son, Juni, came with him for the weekend and it provided us with an opportunity to try out the newly opened Children’s Museum water play space right next door to the Museum (not associated with the Museum, however).
You can see how engaging their water play space is.
