Go behind the scenes to learn about making the new Peanuts animated series Camp Snoopy and The Snoopy Show (Apple TV+) with director Rob Boutilier and animator Gavin Freitas. Learn how they stay true to Charles Schulz’s original comic strip while bringing new stories to life on the screen. Boutilier has helped create new Peanuts animation with WildBrain Studios since 2018, serving as animation director for the Emmy Award-winning documentary Who Are You, Charlie Brown. Freitas has animated and storyboarded numerous TV shows, including The Simpsons, American Dad, Fairly Odd Parents, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and Rick and Morty, to name a few. This presentation is in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Here Come the Beagle Scouts! and National Will Eisner Week.
ABOUT ROB BOUTILIER
Rob (Boots) Boutilier is the showrunner of Camp Snoopy, now playing on Apple TV+. He’s been involved with new Peanuts animation from WildBrain Studios since 2018, serving as animation director for the Emmy-winning documentary Who Are You, Charlie Brown? as well as series director for both Snoopy in Space and The Snoopy Show. Prior to that he has storyboard and directed on several animated series, including one of his own creation, Kid vs Kat, for Disney XD. Rob lives in Vancouver, Canada, with his wife Patty and their very spoiled cat Zixi.
ABOUT GAVIN FREITAS
Gavin Freitas graduated from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, CA, with a degree in animation. He has animated and storyboarded on numerous TV shows for the past 15 years, including on the hit TV show, The Simpsons, with over 90 episodes to his credit. In 2019, Freitas received an EMMY Honors certificate for his work on The Simpsons for Outstanding Animated Program.
He also worked on The Snoopy Show and Camp Snoopy for Wildbrain Studios – Apple+, American Dad, Fairly Odd Parents, Spongebob The Movie, Rick and Morty, and Brickleberry, to name a few. He directed a pilot for Howie Mandel for NBC and a featured documentary about the life and times of legendary voice actress, June Foray.
