Meet, watch, and talk to award-winning filmmaker, stop-motion animator, and artist Matthew Sandager. His diverse portfolio includes commissioned work for Sesame Street, New York Magazine, and John Derian + Target, as well as critically acclaimed short films and photography. His recent short film, The Fountaineer, won Best Animated Short at the Indie Film Festival in 2023. His ongoing work for Sesame Street has led to several films, including Number 8 Ocean, The Number Three (Breakfast Magic), and Belly Breathe.
ABOUT MATTHEW SANDAGER
Matthew Sandager is a filmmaker, animator, storyteller, and photographer based in New York City. His critically acclaimed short films have been shown in film festivals around the world, and his still photography has been widely published and exhibited in galleries across the US.
Sandager’s award-winning short film The Fountaineer is a stop-motion animated film based on an original script. His previous films include Dear Henri, which premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2017 and went on to be shown in over 35 film festivals worldwide, including Toronto International Film Festival Kids (TIFF KIDS). Sandager’s ongoing work for Sesame Street has led to several films for the long-running children’s television program, including The Number Three and Belly Breathe.
