Shortly after meeting tennis legend Billie Jean King, Schulz was introduced to tennis ace, Rosie Casals. Learning of Casals’ intention to organize a series of tennis tournaments for women over 35, he offered to host the first Women’s Tennis Classics Tournament at his Redwood Empire Ice Arena. The tournament attracted many of the top women players of the 1970s and was held at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena from 1983-1985.
