The Flipside of Schulz’s Art: More than Peanuts
Charles Schulz dedicated his considerable artistic talents to more than just the Peanuts comic strip. He brought joy to friends, fans, and family with gifts of original drawings, cards, and cartoons. While Schulz’s wry wit is clearly evident in many of the Peanuts comic strips, perhaps other facets of his personality and relationships, both personal and professional, can be understood from his works.
Games Children Play
This exhibition explores how, in addition to sports, play is portrayed in Peanuts. Early strips find the Gang involved in imaginative play as they bake mud pies and play “cowboys.” Schulz also depicted many other patterns of play, including social play in a multi-day storyline from 1971 that finds the kids play a rousing game of “Ha Ha Herman.” There are also a myriad of examples of object play.
